Boston Manufacturing Company
Boston Manufacturing Company was organized in 1813 (during the War of 1812) by The Boston Associates, previously engaged in the India trade. It built in 1814 at Waltham, Massachusetts the first complete textile factory in America. Operated by water power from the Charles River, the plant combined power spinning and weaving on looms improved upon by Paul Moody,(mechanic), and Francis Cabot Lowell. This proved a pilot plant for larger factories later built at Lowell, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire. Boston Manufacturing Company closed in 1930.
