Depends on the area, but for the majority of bouldering areas it's Fall.

There are exceptions, of course. For instance, alpine bouldering areas (like RMNP and surrounding) get a start in summer, as temps are milder at that time.

Other places, like Hueco Tanks, see a start in late fall and have optimal conditions through the winter.

A verb because it ends in ing and a boulder is a noun.
