Review

Somewhere, Colonel Tom Parker is smiling -- the Starbucks-released Boy from Tupelo is yet another collection of Elvis Presley's seminal Sun Records singles, a surefire moneymaker the world needs as badly as it needs...well, another Starbucks. At least this exercise in redundancy is beautifully packaged, complete with new liner notes by Elvis authority Peter Guralnick, and the potency of the material remains undeniable. For all the endless reissuing, recycling, and repackaging of Elvis' Sun material (his earliest, dating from 1954 to 1956, is still among his least known to general audiences), Starbucks customers who know only the fluff recorded during the King's Hollywood years will be floored by the sheer intensity and invention of these 15 songs that forged his reputation and changed everything. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
