Bragança District (Portuguese pronunciation: [bɾɐˈɡɐ̃sɐ]; Portuguese: Distrito de Braganca Mirandese: Çtrito de Bergança) is located in the Northeast of Portugal. The district capital is the city of Bragança. Mirandela and Macedo de Cavaleiros are also important centres. Its area is 1,173 km².

Language

Leonese language was widely spoken in the territory. Today, there are Leonese language communities in Rio de Onor, Guadramil and so many other villages, and its influence keeps from northeast to southeast, where Mirandese was officially recognised by the Portuguese Parliament.
