Irish Literature Companion:

Breandán Ó hEithir

Ó hEithir, Breandán (1930-1990), novelist and journalist in Irish. A nephew of Liam O'Flaherty, he was born on Inis Mór, the Aran Islands, and educated there, at Coláiste Éinde in Galway, and at UCG. From 1957 to 1963 he was Irish Editor of The Irish Press. He also edited Comhar. His first novel, Lig Sinn i gCathú (1976), is a bawdy narrative of Galway undergraduate life. His second, Sionnach Ar Mo Dhuán (1988), aroused controversy for its frank depictions of sex. Works in English include Over The Bar (1984) on the GAA.
