Widely distributed part-spiritual, part-secular Occitan encyclopædia of 34, 597 lines composed between spring 1288 and c.1292 by Matfre Ermengaud of Béziers. Somewhat convoluted and inconsequential, it enlivens stock philosophical, moralizing, and scientific material with local colour. The world is seen as manifesting love in various forms.

— Peter Davies
