Brian Stuart Goodell (born April 2, 1959 in Stockton, California)[1] is an Olympic champion and former World Record holding freestyle swimmer from the United States. At the 1976 Olympic Games, he won gold medals in 400m and 1500m Frees.[2] He also won golds in both those events at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received a silver medal in 1500 m freestyle at the 1975 World Aquatics Championships in Cali, Colombia.

He attended college at the University of California, Los Angeles, winning nine National Collegiate Athletic Association individual championships.[3]

World records

Goodell held the world record in 400 m freestyle, long course from 18 June 1976 to 6 April 1979, and the world record in 1500 m freestyle, long course from 1976 to 1980.
