Bridezilla

(term)
For the Australian band, see Bridezilla (band).

Bridezilla (a portmanteau of bride and Godzilla) is a generic term used to describe a difficult, unpleasant, perfectionist bride who leaves aggravated family, friends and bridal vendors in her wake. A bridezilla is obsessed with her wedding as her perfect day and will disregard the feelings of the family, bridesmaids and even her groom in her quest for the perfect wedding.

The first known citation was in The Boston Globe, June 29, 1995.[1] Bridezillas is also the name of a reality television show on WE: Women's Entertainment. "Bridezilla" was trademarked by Los Angeles, Ca. writer, Kenny Kates in 1998. Stories and cartoons were published and merchandise was sold. Kates sold his Trademark in 2007 to PortentInteractive of Seattle, Wa.

An article on Slate Magazine[2] suggests that the clinical diagnosis of Acquired Situational Narcissism may be appropriate for the condition.

Bridezilla is also the coined nickname of the YouTube video depicting a woman who is upset about her haircut on her wedding day who "wigs out" and cuts off all of her hair. It was revealed as a hoax by Dlisted.com, and eventually the girls made their rounds on various talk shows. It was later revealed that the video was part of a viral marketing ad campaign by the shampoo manufacturer Sunsilk.
