Within a cardroom or casino, this describes a situation in which there
are not enough players at a table to continue playing. This usually
means there are only 4 or 5 players at the table. The players at the
short table get split up and head to new tables in order to create full
games.
SoundPoker Says: This most commonly happens in tournaments, as a result of players getting knocked out. Players get moved around to other tables or will have new players added to their tables in order to keep all tables with equal number of players. In a casino scenario (non-tournament) a table may get broken up as players perish.
