Biography

Part of the same scrappy indie rock explosion centered around the small provincial city of Sheffield, England, as the Arctic Monkeys, the Long Blondes, and Milburn, Bromheads Jacket is a noisy indie trio with influences ranging from the Small Faces to Blur and a veddy veddy English lyrical sense that has garnered comparisons to the Kinks and Squeeze. Think of them as the Kaiser Chiefs to the Arctic Monkeys' Franz Ferdinand. Formed in 2004, Bromheads Jacket consists of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Tim Hampton, bassist Jono West, and drummer Dan Potter. Signed to the indie label Marquis Cha Cha, Bromheads Jacket debuted in late 2005 with the single "Woolley Bridge," followed quickly by "What Ifs and Maybes" and the tightly wound Britpop of "Trip to the Golden Arches." In addition, the trio garnered an extra bit of buzz when Mike Skinner of the Streets invited Bromheads Jacket to record a cover of his new song "When You Wasn't Famous," which was released on the B-side of the Streets' single. The full-length debut album by Bromheads Jacket, Dits from the Commuter Belt, was released in November 2006. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

History

Bromheads Jacket formed in Sheffield in 2005, from the ashes of a band called Fixated. Although often compared to other Sheffield bands who found fame around the same time, such as Arctic Monkeys and Milburn, the band have a somewhat heavier style and differ due to singer Tim Hampton's southern England accent (he was raised in Yateley, Hampshire).

The band have so far released five singles: 'Woolley Bridge', 'What Ifs + Maybes', 'Trip to the Golden Arches', 'Lesley Parlafitt' and 'Speaker Box'. All were released on the Marquis Chacha record label. They have undertaken several tours of the UK as well as played across Europe in Spain at the Summercase Festival, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. In 2005 they undertook a nationwide tour with Club NME, and played South By Southwest in Texas.

Their first album, Dits from the Commuter Belt, was released on November 13 2006 and was followed by a tour of over 30 gigs around the UK supported by the Middlesbrough group The Oxfam Glamour Models.

In 2006 the band recorded a cover of The Streets' single 'When You Wasn't Famous', which was released on the b-side of the song's 7" (with Skinner reportedly being a big fan of Bromheads, in particular of Hampton's lyrical style and ability). The single reached number 8 in the UK charts.

Their song 'Fight Music for the Fight' is featured in the PSP game Burnout Dominator and the new Burnout Paradise[1] on PS3 and Xbox 360.

Their second album, 'On The Brain', was released on September 22 2008.

They have also played the London Calling festival in Amsterdam. The band are due to release their third album in 2009.

In September 2009 the band released the single 'Boots' as a free download on their official website, but under the name Bromheads, apparently dropping the name word Jacket. This is as a result of losing the bass player Jono West. Tim & Dan are to continue as a two piece band as Bromheads.

In October 2009 Bromheads released another free dowload single called 'Hole In The Head'.
