Bryan Gordon is a television and film director. He has been nominated three times for the Directors Guild of America Award and in 2002 received the Directors Guild award for comedy directing. He’s been nominated for an Emmy twice – both for his work on the HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, which he continues to direct now in its seventh season. He has directed such TV series as The Office, Weeds, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, The West Wing, Ally McBeal, Boston Public, Freaks and Geeks and The Wonder Years. He is one of the few directors to do both comedy and drama.
He directed the pilot and set the look and design for the long running series One Tree Hill.
In 2009, he directed and produced the series Party Down for the Starz Network, that stars Adam Scott, Ken Marino, Lizzie Caplan, Jane Lynch, Martin Starr, and Ryan Hansen. He is returning for another season in the fall.
He started his career as a comedy writer on Fridays and as an independent filmmaker that included writing and directing the Academy Award winning short Ray’s Male Heterosexual Dance Hall and the feature film Pie in the Sky starring Anne Heche, John Goodman, and Josh Charles, as well as directing the film Career Opportunities (film).
He was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. He graduated from Dover High School and the University of Delaware where he has been honored as a member of the University’s Wall of Fame.
He and his family live in Los Angeles, California. He is married to filmmaker Jessie Nelson who wrote and directed such films as I Am Sam starring Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Dakota Fanning and Corrina, Corrina starring Whoopi Goldberg.
