Bryan Smyth
Bryan Smyth (born 1963) is an Irish singer, television presenter, and an actor. He was born in Dublin, Ireland.
Smyth came to light as a singer at a young age; as a boy soprano he found himself in demand in many churches in Dublin. He studied singing at the Leinster School of Music & Drama, but leaving school early in the hope of becoming a rock star failed.
Then in a move which changed his life he joined in a drama society. In his early twenties, Smyth quickly turned professional.
As an actor, he appeared in Irish productions ranging from Oklahoma! to The Rocky Horror Show. Smyth first appeared in London's West End in 1999 when he was asked to play the role of Matthew Mugg in Leslie Bricusse's stage adaptation of the film musical Doctor Dolittle. Smyth's performance in the show brought much critical acclaim. The show ran for over 400 performances in London's largest theatre.
As a television presenter, Smyth was one of Ireland's top TV stars. His show, It's Not the Answer, ran for four years on Radio Telefís Éireann (RTÉ) and spent most of that time in the top five ratings. While working on the show it came to light that Smyth could sing, so he was asked to open and close the 2000 New Year's Eve show on RTÉ. He has also appered in the Variety Club with Tony Bennett and Julie Andrews. He has also appeared with Andy Williams and is also a frequent guest on The Lyrics Board (a game show) also on RTÉ with Eurovision Song Contest winner Paul Harrington.
