Bryan Thompson

Bryan Thompson (born October 11, 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona) is an automotive and freelance designer. He received a Bachelor of Industrial Design degree from College for Creative Studies in 1999 and is employed at Nissan Design America in San Diego. Thompson is known most predominantly for developing the relationship between Nissan and Airstream that lead to the creation of the BaseCamp Trailer, manufactured by Airstream. Thompson has created production and concept car designs for Nissan, including the Armada interior and the Actic interior and Airstream Trailer Concept revealed at the 2004 Detroit International Auto Show. In 2005, he opened his own studio in San Diego.

His approach to design can be described as functional and whimsical. In the June 2006 issue of Architectural Digest, he was cited as initiating the relationship with Airstream by showing up “at the opening of the Airstream Diner on Los Angeles’s Santa Monica Boulevard tricked out in a pair of silver trousers and bearing a gift.” The gift was a model of the trailer that would eventually become the production BaseCamp.

Thompson lives with his domestic partner, a local news anchorman in San Diego. He currently maintains a column on Bravo TV's design blog, which showcases his designing talents as well as many professional and personal pieces of advice, including creativity, coming out issues and a very humorous, lighthearted view on life in general.
