Buckbeak the hippogriff is one of Hagrid's favorite pets. During one of Hagrid's Magical Creatures classes, he slashes Draco Malfoy, and is sentenced to death. Later he is freed by Harry and Hermione, and he helps rescue Sirius Black. After Sirius' death, he returns to Hagrid, and is renamed Witherwings.
