Builders of Socialism was billed as a "Chronicle of the International Workers' Delegation to the Soviet Union in May of 1935." The plotless narrative offers endless shots of thriving, prosperous factories, mines, farms. In other words, it's an ideological travelogue. In the grand tradition of previous Soviet documentaries, the film concludes with a May Day celebration, presided over by an avuncular Joseph Stalin and packed with hundreds and thousands of cheering Muscovites (some few of whom look genuinely happy.
