To burn a card is to discard a card prior to dealing, removing it from play.
SoundPoker Says: In draw poker the top card on the deck is usually burned before the draw cards are
given out. In Stud and Texas Hold’em a card is burned before each round of
cards is dealt, meaning a card is burned on the flop, turn and river. The card
itself is referred to as the ‘burned/burnt card’.
Cards are traditionally burned in order to prevent a cheater from manipulating the deck to their advantage.
