Biography

From Antigua, this band represents the epitome of the high-energy, multiple-influenced, synthesizer-driven soca bands of some of the other soca islands. Years of tourist gigs and a stint as backup band to Montserrat calypsonian Arrow laid the groundwork for their solo debut ... total domination of the Antigua carnival in 1986 with Stiley Tight. Elements of rock, funk, reggae, cadence, zouk, and more, put to frenetic tempos of amphetamine-like proportion, were the trademark of this band until 1989's "Workey Workey," a funky, zoukish second-line that was an international sensation. They zouked it out further in 1990 with "Chook and Dig" and shortly afterward were anthologized on a Mango release, Dig, although the re-mixing done for the record worked to the detriment of each cut. They have taken Antigua Road March almost every year since 1985. ~ Gene Scaramuzzo, All Music Guide

Biography

Formerly "endless vibration" known for playing more rock and roll than soca, Burning Flames, a soca band made up of brothers and cousins, started out playing background for Calypso Arrow. In 1986 they broke away and formed their own band, led by the vocals of Onyan and Oungku. In 1996 Onyan left burning and formed the Baygon band In 2006. he decade later to rejoined Burning Flames and lead alongside Krokuss aka Lord Satellite. In 2004 the death of Onika Bostic (band vocalist) in her home country Trinidad, brought tears to many Antiguan's eyes.[citation needed] That same year, as if by fate,[citation needed] then lead singer Oungku left burning flames after they had won that year's Carnival Road march with their single "De harder deh come". From his song, "Oungku too Bad-minded," it became apparent[citation needed] that Oungku left the Band because of some kind of controversy which was very well hidden.[citation needed] He left and said it was because, The band had outgrown its members. He went on to form his own band, Red Hot Flames, with which he won the 2006 road march competition, with the single "Trouble." While, Krokuss, also known as Lord Satellite, went to his brother Onyan to ask for help to continue the Burning Flames legacy. They named their album I Man Haffu Nyam featuring songs like Raw Sole, and Green Bush. They went on to reclaim the road march title with the single "Papi" off their 2007 album "De Real Fyah".
