Richard Burton Lawless (born November 1, 1953 in Dothan, Alabama) is a former American football guard who played six seasons in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions. He played high school football at Charlotte High School and college football at the University of Florida. Lawless was drafted in the second round of the 1975 NFL Draft.

Lawless was the only member of 1975 draft to earn a starting job as a rookie, but he lost that job to Herbert Scott in 1976. He served as a messenger guard in Dallas for most of the remainder of the decade before being traded to Detroit in 1980.

Lawless attended the closing ceremony at Texas Stadium on December 20, 2008. [1]
