Burwell is a small village on the A16 road, north of Spilsby, Lincolnshire, comprising approximately 2200 acres (9 km²).
Burwell Priory, which once stood here, was a Benedictine monastery founded at some point before 1110 by John de Hayes. It was an alien priory belonging to Grande-Sauve Abbey in Aquitaine. During the Dissolution of the Monasteries, Henry VIII gave it to Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk.
The manor house, Burwell Park, was rebuilt in 1760.
The parish church, dedicated to Saint Michael, became redundant on 13 May 1981 and was taken over by the Redundant Churches Fund on 27 Oct 1982.
