Bury Interchange is a tram station in Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The station was opened in 1980, incorporating a new bus station and the northern terminus of the Bury to Manchester railway line.

Contents

History

The railway originally served Bury Bolton Street which is now the Bury station of the East Lancashire Railway. The railway between Manchester and Bury Interchange was redeveloped in the early 1990s to become Metrolink, with Bury its northern terminus. The interchange lies in Metrolink Ticketing Zone A.

The interchange is managed by GMPTE and has recently been refurbished, improving facilities and security for passengers.[1] For a time the interchange became infamous as the place where Shirley Leach was murdered in 1994.[2]

Local Area

Buses serving the interchange are operated predominantly by First Manchester or Easyride Buses. First Manchester operates high-frequency services to Manchester, Radcliffe, Bolton and Rochdale, and connecting services across Greater Manchester. Easyride Buses provides mainly local services throughout North Bury and into the Rossendale Valley. The interchange lies adjacent to Kay Gardens and is a short walk from Bury's Millgate shopping centre and Bury Market.
