Review

Canibus is always doing something different. It seems like most of the better rappers and groups nowadays don't do many albums the same as one another, but adapt their style to keep people intrigued. Canibus does this here, with an almost mellow, laid-back offering. This album is really relaxed; the MC from "100 Bars" or "Poet Laureate" isn't found here. The beginning of the LP starts with a few intros and some tracks where Canibus takes on the form of Stan from the Eminem song. It's interesting, but not necessarily effective. The video game samples used throughout are a really weird thing about this album. Some of them are just plain annoying, but still Canibus proves that he can rock over anything. This is a long album, something that Canibus obviously worked pretty hard on. If you're a die-hard fan, don't expect the MC murderer listeners have grown used to, but don't completely write it off either. An introspective effort. ~ Brad Mills, All Music Guide

Beef with Eminem

The album has various skits referring to Stan, which at this time in Canibus' career, was beefing with Eminem. The track "Stan Lives!" is a skit that begins seconds before Stan drives off the bridge in Eminem's Stan. U Didn't Care is a song from Stan's point of view.

Eminem's responses were somewhat subliminal on his next release, The Eminem Show. Near the end of "Square Dance", Eminem says

"Can-I-Bitch don't want no parts of me."

Eminem also uses an altered "'Round the Outside" rhyme on the Without Me :

"Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside."

Canibus used a similar line on Box Cutta' Blade Runna :

"Canibus is coming for ya’ll 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside."

Eminem made a song and released via mixtape called "Can-I-Bitch"

In 2003, an unrelated internet mixtape entitled "The 'E' True Hollywood Mixtape" by Eminem, was released.

Reception

The Onion A.V. club reviewed his track "Draft Me" as follows: "Next-big-thing turned hip-hop footnote Canibus leaped into the post-9/11 xenophobic fray with the noxious macho fantasy "Draft Me." With sophisticated lyrics like "Draft me! I wanna fight for my country / Jump in a Humvee and murder those monkeys!" the song instantly hurled itself into a time capsule of kitsch. At least Canibus proved a man of his word: Denied the compulsory draft he so richly desired, he enrolled in the Army, only to be kicked out for smoking cannabis. How appropriate."[5]
