The cabinet of Greece comprises the heads of the major ministries. Ministers are appointed by the president on the advice of the prime minister. There is also an advisory council of the Republic, which includes former prime ministers and the heads of all parliamentary parties.
Incoming cabinet
On September 18 2007, Kostas Karamanlis announced his new cabinet, the members of which will assume office on September 19 2007.
As part of a reorganisation of the ministries, the incoming government has announced that:
- the Ministry of the Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation and the Ministry of Public Order have been merged to form the Ministry of the Interior and Public Order;
- the Ministry of Mercantile Marine and the Ministry of the Aegean and Island Policy have been merged to form the Ministry of Mercantile Marine and Island Policy.
