The California Department of Real Estate (DRE) is dedicated to protecting the public in the world of real estate. The agency provides licensing, helps enforce real estate laws, monitors mortgage loan activities, and offers real estate publications. The agency receives funding from fees for real estate licenses, subdivision public reports, and other permits. The governor appoints the commissioner, the chief executive for the department.
