California's 22nd congressional district
California's 22nd congressional district covers parts of San Luis Obispo, Kern, and Los Angeles counties. The current Representative for this district is Republican Kevin McCarthy. In the 2006 election, McCarthy defeated Democrat Sharon Beery to replace retiring Republican Bill Thomas. The district has a Cook Partisan Voting Index score of R +16.
Voting
George W. Bush received 68% of the vote in this district in 2004; John Kerry received 31%.[1] The district voted for Arnold Schwarzenegger 74-22% in 2006,[2] Dick Mountjoy 57-37% in 2006,[3] Bill Jones 60-36% in 2004,[4] recalling Gray Davis 77-23%[5] and Schwarzenegger 63-16%[6] in 2003, and Bill Simon 64-29% in 2002.[7]
