California's 22nd congressional district covers parts of San Luis Obispo, Kern, and Los Angeles Counties. It takes in most of Bakersfield and San Luis Obispo County. The current Representative for this district is Republican Kevin McCarthy. In the 2006 election, McCarthy defeated Democrat Sharon Beery to replace retiring Republican Bill Thomas.

The 22nd is the most Republican district in California, with a Cook PVI of R+16.
