California School

Term used to group some American landscape-architects, all working independently, but responding to Californian demands for gardens with amenities such as swimming-pools and terraces allowing the living-rooms to extend outwards. Designers such as Baylis, Church, Eckbo, and Halprin were associated with the California School, and their work was influential, even where the climate was less agreeable than that of CA.
