Callicoon is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 216 at the 2000 census.
Callicoon is in the western part of the county in the Town of Delaware (Note that the Town of Callicoon is a different place).
History
Rafting lumber down the river was an early occupation. The community also was an important railroad stop for lumber and water.
Geography
The community is located on the east bank of the Delaware River. It is approximately 60 miles southeast of Binghamton, New York and 110 miles northwest of New York City, New York.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (17.39%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census
There were 94 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.6% were married couples living together, 17.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.79.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $33,162, and the median income for a family was $33,068. Males had a median income of $32,917 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,217. About 15.1% of families and 16.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.8% of those under the age of eighteen and 16.7% of those sixty five or over.

Hospital
Callicoon is home to the 30-bed Catskill Regional Medical Center, Grover M. Hermann Division, which serves the western portion of Sullivan County. A bigger, more full-serviced hospital of the same name is located in Harris, New York.
Tourism
The most popular attraction in the Callicoon area is Villa Roma Resort and Conference Center, a full resort hotel with tennis, skiing, lodging, and conference facilities. It is one of only a few resorts remaining in Sullivan County, a county once well-known nationally for its massive resorts and entertainment venues.
Rafting, canoeing, camping, and hunting are big draws to the area.
Tourists can also revel in a farm market in the business district held weekly on Sundays starting at 11:00 A.M.
Media
Sullivan County Democrat is a newspaper published bi-weekly covering news and events throughout the county. Its office is located on Main Street in Callicoon.
Education
The Callicoon area was once home to Delaware Valley Central School. However, with the consolidation of this district with those in nearby Jeffersonville, New York and Narrowsburg, New York, it closed. Narrowsburg's school also closed and Jeffersonville's school has become the sole elementary school for the region. A new junior-high and high school building has been built in centrally located Lake Huntington, New York. The new Sullivan West Central School District still owns the school building in Callicoon, but has left it vacant.
Callicoon is the location of the Delaware Valley Job Corps Center, a job training facility which was formerly Saint Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary.
