Camillo Pacetti

(b Rome, 2 May 1758; d Milan, 16 July 1826). Sculptor, painter and restorer, brother of (1) Vincenzo Pacetti. In 1805, through the good offices of Antonio Canova, he obtained the chair in sculpture at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and thus contributed to the spread of Neo-classical art in Lombardy. In 1810 he was appointed to supervise the design and realization of Milan Cathedral's statues; he himself carved the Law of Christ, Moses, St James the Great and, in collaboration with Giuseppe Buzzi, St James the Less and St John the Evangelist (1802-12; Milan Cathedral, fa?ade). His oeuvre also included low reliefs (1812; Milan, Arco Sempione; in situ), busts (e.g. Giuseppe Bossi, 1817, and Andrea Appiani, c. 1820; both Milan, Brera) and numerous models (Milan, Gal. A. Mod.).
