A budding, yeastlike fungus present in the normal flora of the mucous membrane of the female genital tract and human respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts (including the mouth) that is capable of assuming a pathogenic role in the production of oral and systemic moniliasis, such as thrush and monilial infection.
