Canine

Poker Guide: Canine

Refers to when a player's hole cards consist of a king and a nine (K-9). This hand is also referred to as “The Dog”.

SoundPoker Says: The hand (K,9) when spoken is analogous to saying the word canine and as such received its name. This is a mediocre starting hand that one should be wary of playing on especially if they are unsuited. If you are in the dealer position you get to act last and as such it would be prudent to judge your opponents based on their reactions and betting prior to the flop and based on these judgements decide whether or not to act.
