The Repository

Wikipedia: The Repository

The Repository is a daily newspaper serving the greater Canton, Ohio, area. Founded March 30, 1815, by John Saxton, it started as a weekly, and began publishing seven-days-a-week in 1892.[1] Historically, it had strong Republican connections, most notably with President William McKinley, who was married to the granddaughter of the paper's founder.[1]

Formerly owned by the The Thomson Corporation, it was later sold to the Copley Press. It was acquired in April 2007 by GateHouse Media.[2]

The Repository is related to other Ohio newspapers, the daily New Philadelphia Times Reporter and Massillon Independent, and for southern Summit County, the weekly The Suburbanite.

The publisher is Kevin Kampman.[1] Jeff Gauger was hired as Executive Editor in 2007;[3] managing editor M. L. Schultze left The Repository that same year to begin a career in public radio.[4]

The paper has a staff of about sixty.[5]
