A subsidiary of Liberty International, Capital Shopping Centres is one of the UK's largest shopping center developers, with some12 million sq. ft. of retail space in its portfolio of about a dozen shopping malls. The company owns all or part of properties ranging from large regional malls (over 1 million sq. ft.) at major highway junctions to smaller shopping malls (around 400,000 sq. ft.) in urban centers. It also owns other office and retail properties. Capital Shopping Centres' well-known shopping centers include the Lakeside in Thurrock, which boasts a diving school, and the MetroCentre in Gateshead, the largest covered shopping facility in the UK.
