1. (Berg: Wozzeck). Tenor. Capt. in the army. Wozzeck is his soldier-servant. The Captain likes to moralize and philosophize. He taunts Wozzeck for being a father without being married. Created (1925) by Waldemar Henke.
2. (Adams: The Death of Klinghoffer). Capt. of the cruise ship Achille Lauro which is hijacked by terrorists. He bargains with the terrorist leader — they can leave the ship peacefully if they allow it to return to port. On arrival in Alexandria he has to break the news to Mrs Klinghoffer that her husband has been killed. Created (1991) by James Maddalena.
