Carlo Aymonino
(1926– )
Rome-born architect. He edited the architectural journal Casabella-Continuità (1959–64), but is perhaps best known for his writings on typologies, cities, and urbanism. He designed the Monte Amiata housing development, Gallaratese, Milan (built 1967–73), in collaboration with other architects (including Aldo Rossi): blocks of apartments (mostly seven storeys high) were arranged geometrically around a vast space. Aymonino was involved in several city-centre planning schemes, including those at Bologna and Turin (both 1962), Reggio Emilia (with Constantino Dardi, 1971), and Florence (with Aldo Rossi, 1978).
