Plot
The British "Carry On" series was in its 12th year when Carry On Again, Doctor was unleashed upon a panting public in 1969. Veteran Carry On-ers Kenneth Williams, Sidney James, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Hattie Jacques, Jim Dale and Barbara Windsor fill the principal roles in this hospital farce. Dale has the central role as a manic medico who stumbles upon a formula for weight control. The film's South-Sea setting permits plenty of female pulchritude to insinuate its way across the screen in between the one-liners and slapstick setpieces. Gerald Thomas directs, as ever. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide

Carry On Again Doctor is the eighteenth Carry On film. It was released in 1969 and is notable for being Jim Dale's last appearance in the series until 1992's Carry On Columbus.
A disgraced doctor is sent to a remote clinic on an inhospitable tropical island where he learns of a native slimming potion. He flies back to England to cash in on the potion, soon finding success running a lavish slimming clinic. However his former professional rivals who had been instrumental in sending him away in the first place now want a slice of the profits, as does the real discoverer of the slimming potion.
The original script for Carry On Again Doctor raised problems with Rank's legal advisor, who felt it was too similar to an unfilmed 'Doctor' script that Talbot Rothwell, writer of Carry On Again Doctor, had previously submitted to Betty Box. Most notably, the medical mission/slimming potion idea, which had featured heavily in both scenarios. As Box did not take up the option on Rothwell's 'Doctor' script, however, it was felt there were no legal problems to the use of these ideas in this film.
