Cars Mater-National is a title for video game consoles and handhelds released on October 30, 2007 by THQ. It is the sequel to the Cars video game based on the Cars film from Pixar.

Contents

Plot

The game focuses on the first ever Mater-National race held in Radiator Springs by Lightning McQueen and features an improved world as well as new characters. Mike and Sulley from Monster Trucks, Inc are in the video game and Sulley can race with all the monster trucks, Count Spatula, The Crippler, Ginormous, Monster McQueen, and Monster Mater. Mike is featured in a minigame which involves picking up "laugh canisters". Some other characters featured are Emma, a small white and pink rally car from England, Philip, a red and white, over-excited British 1937 Cord Model 812 who has trouble remembering which side of the road to drive on in America, Gudmund, a cocky 1980 Audi Quattro rally car from Sweden who has loads of headlights and loves driving through caves at night, Otto, a German tuner car who doesn't understand the concept of speed limits, Koji, a red, grey and white Japanese drift car who loves drifting, Giovanni, a tough-looking but very nice red Ferrari Enzo from Italy, and Yuri (possibly named after Yuri Gagarin), a dark green Russian 1962 Toyota Crown. Ornament Valley, Radiator Springs, and Tailfin Pass have all been updated. In Radiator Springs, new rock formations have been cut, and Fillmore has opened a nature park. In Ornament Valley, there is a construction zone, an airport, and several new rock formations to explore. In Tailfin Pass, roads have been completely revamped, and there is a new mine and an abandoned western town to drive through.

Improvements

Radiator Springs and surrounding environments have had a huge makeover. In Radiator Springs, Fillmore has opened a Nature Park, and Lightning McQueen has opened up a racing headquarters. In Ornament Valley, there is a huge airport and an RV park. In Tailfin Pass, locations have simply been revamped, some new tunnels have been cut, and some new roads have been paved. There is also a brand new mine to explore and a western town center in the middle of the woods. There is now a Luigi's Casa Della Tires and Ramone's House of Body Art in every section of Carburetor County. Unfortunately, many of the areas in the original game cannot be accessed, meaning that areas like the canyons, mine, backroads of Radiator Springs and Willie's Butte are barricaded off. Also, the improved areas like Fillmore's Nature Reserve, the totally revamped Tailfin Pass, the underground construction zone in Ornament Valley and Ornament Valley Maze can't be driven through, they are only driven in during races. Another difference is that Lightning (standard) has a difficult time keeping traction on offroad dirt, the like of which greatly reduces his speed while simultaneous making a screeching noise from the tires.

Trivia

  • Like the film, this video game is dedicated in memory of Joe Ranft.
  • Different VAs voiced Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson, Fillmore, Guido, Mia and Tia and the Mike Wazowski car. It could be assumed that Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, George Carlin, Guido Quaroni, Lindsey Collins, Elissa Knight and Billy Crystal weren't available to do the game. Also, Sally, Mack, Chick Hicks, The King, DJ, Boost and Wingo weren't even in the game (even though DJ's voice actor: E.J. Holowicki was in the game).
  • Snot Rod is the only car from the Delinquent Road Hazards to appear in this game, DJ, Boost and Wingo are absent in the game.
  • In Ornament Valley Airport, most of the airlines are sponsored by Piston Cup Racecars from the previous video game.
  • In the Tailfin Pass mine, if you jump high enough from the ramp, you'll come up to a ledge on top of the mine where you'll find additional points.
  • Sometimes if you bump a car, they just slide away and if you bump them for too long, they will disappear and appear somewhere else.
  • In Ornament Valley, you can drive up the mountain cliffs on the side of the Rustbucket Stadium. There, you can take a decent look at the whole Of Ornament Valley, although you can't do this on the other side.
  • In the race at North Willy's Butte, you will see small ponds and on the last pond water will be flowing from off the hill. If you look behind the ropes, you will see Red.
  • Mater is revealed to speak Japanese.
  • Many parts in Radiator Springs, Ornament Valley, and especially Tailfin Pass are barricaded and cannot be driven through.
