To reach shoppers when they are shopping, consumer packaged-goods manufacturers call on Catalina Marketing. The company's network, installed at the cash registers of more than 23,000 supermarkets and drugstores throughout the US, prints out coupons and other marketing communications for consumers based on the products they have just purchased. A similar system, installed at more than 17,500 pharmacies, delivers health-related information to consumers based on the prescriptions they pick up. Outside the US, Catalina Marketing has installed its networks at about 7,000 retail locations in Europe and Japan. The company was established in 1983.
