catalog house

Seller who utilizes a mail-order catalog as the primary means of presenting merchandise to potential buyers. Some catalog houses have successfully opened retail outlets, in contrast to traditional retailers who begin with a store and branch out to catalogs. In the mid-1980s one of the most successful catalog houses to open retail stores was Banana Republic.
