Review

David Borden conceived and conceptualized Cayuga Night Music during his many years along Lake Cayuga on the Cornell College campus in Ithaca, NY. (He was the composer/musician in residence at Robert Moog's factory in Ithaca.) This CD has all the elements of atmospheric ambience and dark minimalism with overt experimental textures. Those extra textures add mystery and intrigue and give the set an avant-garde overtone. That is typical of Borden's solo work and his work with Mother Mallard's Portable Masterpiece Company. The manipulated and warped sounds have hard edges that make this a challenging experience. That is another typical feature of Borden and Mother Mallard's discs -- they challenge listeners to go beyond themselves. This CD will appeal to fans of Robert Scott Thompson, Laurie Anderson, Holger Czukay, Jeff Greinke, and Stuart Dempster. ~ Jim Brenholts, All Music Guide
