Cecilius

Saints: Cecilius

Cecilius, bishop of Granada (date uncertain). All that can certainly be said about him is that he was the first bishop of Granada. Legend claimed that he was one of seven disciples of James the Great, supposedly consecrated by Peter the Apostle to be bishops in Spain. In reality, as in France, apostolic origins cannot be claimed for the early bishoprics. Cecilius more probably belongs to the 3rd century than to the first. Feast: 1 February (or 15 May).
