It's centennial year for Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada's eighth and ninth provinces, which were formally added to the Confederation 100 years ago today. The two Prairie Provinces are rich in agriculture and natural resources, and are both large wheat-producing areas. Saskatchewan was originally settled by Athabaskan-, Algonquian-, and Sioux-speaking tribes, but both provinces' first European settlements were established by Hudson's Bay Company in the mid-1700s.
