Games:

Centipede

Game Description

A disappointing port of the 1980 arcade classic, Centipede for the Game Boy lacks the smooth control, fast pace and rhythmic gameplay of the original. The visuals are spruced up a bit to include more detail, but, unlike Centipede for the game.com, there's no option to play the game using the original graphics. Also, the animation is jerky, and no attempt was made at reproducing the sound effects from the coin-op classic. On a more positive note, four difficulty levels are available, and two players can compete or cooperate in simultaneous mode by linking two systems together. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide

Roots & Influences

Space Invaders (1978) introduced the concept of enemies descending from the top of the screen down to an area where a weapon fires vertically. Galaxian (1980) furthered the concept by having the invaders break from formation and attack in small groups. ~ Brett Alan Weiss, All Game Guide
