In France, the National Center of Cinematography and the moving image (French:Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée) (CNC), Formally the National Centre of Cinematography is a publicly owned establishment, with legal and financial autonomy. Created by law on 25 October 1946, it is under the authority of the Minister of Culture, and is currently directed by Veronique Cayla.

The principal functions of the CNC are:

  • Regulation of cinema
  • Support of the economy of the cinema, audiovisual and multimedia arts
  • The promotion and spread of the cinema and audiovisual for the public
  • The protection and spread of France's cultural heritage in cinematography
