Sports Science and Medicine:

centre of percussion

The point on a striking implement that produces fewest vibrations on hitting another object. A ball hit at the centre of percussion of a bat will produce fewer vibrations, and more force will be transferred to the ball, than if it was hit at another point. The centre of percussion on a bat, racket, or golf club is also known as the sweet spot.
