The relation of opposing occlusal surfaces that provides the maximum planned contact and/or intercuspation. It should exist when the mandible is in centric relation to the maxilla. Also called central occlusion.

  1. The relation of opposing occlusal surfaces of the teeth providing the maximal intercuspation.
  2. The occlusion of the teeth when the lower jaw is in centric relation to the upper jaw.
