Ceramīcus

 

Ceramīcus (Kerameikos), the potters' quarter at Athens, an area north-west of the Acropolis. When the Themistoclean city wall was built this quarter was divided into the Inner and Outer Ceramicus. The part outside the walls was used as a burial ground; the agora was included in the inner part.
