Celtic Mythology: Ceredigion

Welsh name for Cardiganshire, a former maritime country of Wales, since 1974 part of Dyfed. In the 8th century Ceredigion joined with Ystrad Tywi to form the kingdom of Seissyllwg. Named for Ceredigion, a son of Cunedda. A notable 9th-century king was Arthen.

Ceredigion, county, 694 sq mi (1,797 sq km), W Wales. Ceredigion, corresponding to the former county of Cardiganshire, was established in 1996 when the nonmetropolitan county of Dyfed was dissolved. Cardiganshire (Welsh Sir Ceredigion) had been joined with Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire in 1974 to form Dyfed.
