Club Atlético Chacarita Juniors are an Argentine professional football (soccer) club from San Martín in the Buenos Aires Province currently paying in the second division.

The club was founded on May 1st, 1906, in an Anarchist Library[1] on the border between the Villa Crespo and Chacarita neighbourhoods, and after a short period of institutional crisis, the club was re-opened in 1919.

The team reached the amateur first division in 1924, and continued playing in first division after the professionalisation of football in 1931.

In 1940 they were relegated second division, but only for one season, The team then moved to the San Martín partido in Buenos Aires Province, next to Buenos Aires City.

Again, in 1956, Chacarita were relegated to the second division , only to conquer the Second Division Championship of 1959. After 10 consecutive years in the first division, Chacarita finally won its only first division title, the Metropolitano 1969.

But in the following years the team performed badly and were relegated all the way down to the 4th division in 1980. In 1984 they came back to the first division, but because of Hooliganism by some of Chacarita's fans, the club were suspended for a month and lost 10 points; missing those points, the club couldn't help relegation back to the second division.

The club then moved between second and third division most of the time, until they were promoted back to first division in 1999. After the Clausura 2004, Chacarita returned to second division where they currently play.

The team, eternal rival of Club Atlético Atlanta, got the nickname of Funebreros ("Undertakers") because their ground was near the La Chacarita Cemetery. Chacarita still sports red and black uniforms, a reference to its anarchist origins.
