change of address

Modification of a record on a list or computer file to change or correct an address in the record; also called c/a or CHAD. A change of address might include a name or title change if that is considered by the file owner to be part of the address record. An address change will also result in a change of match code, preventing the file owner from maintaining the identity of each record over time for historical reporting. Some marketers have overcome this problem by assigning a permanent record identifier number.
