Review
Arnaud Le Goufflec appears wearing a mask on the cover of this 2004 CD, with a title expressing a similar conceit and a playlist in which identity transfer seems to be a major theme. Several playful instrumental tracks that are reminiscent of The Residents provide variety, but like the majority of this artist's clever touches throughout are not quite enough this time to over-ride the monotony of the most familiar drum machine sounds. One exception is the rhythm track of "Je Suis Une Baleine", which sounds like someone whomping a peacock on the back. Elsewhere it is acoustic guitar patterns providing the most stimulating background accompaniments as on the terrific "Pantomime". The masked singer theme is also an aspect of Le Goufflec's live performances in which bandmembers sometimes cover their faces with sturdy cabbage leaves. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
