Charlie Allan

Wikipedia: Charlie Allan

Charlie Allan (born July 9, 1958, Aberdeen) is the sports editor of the Aberdeen Evening Express and main sports writer for the newspaper.

Allan has worked for the Evening Express since 1990 and was named British Telecom Scottish Sports Writer of the year in 1999. He reported on the 1998 World Cup finals and 1992 and 1996 European Championship finals. Allan was banned by Dundee United FC for failing to reveal sources of story claiming player Mark Perry was going to join Aberdeen.

Evening Express printed "Charlie Allan" masks, which were worn by supporters at next game to beat the ban. Allan wore one of the masks to get into the ground to file his report. Norwegian footballer Arild Stavrum shaved off all of his hair and sent it to Allan after taking offence to a report in the Evening Express.

Allan offered the hair as a reader's prize and the winner had it adapted for use as brushes for the drum kit in a school band.

Allan was banned from doing interviews with Aberdeen FC players in 2008. Allan beat the ban by wearing a disguise—an orange permed wig, false nose and Elvis glasses—to interview Dutch player Dave Bus. The ban was lifted the following day. In 2008, Allan was ghostwriting the autobiography of former Aberdeen FC striker Joe Harper, which was due to be published later that year.

Charlie Allan has been married to Janice Allan (born May 28, 1959) since their wedding on July 24, 1982.
